August TBR and some book expectations (book club edition)

Hey, lovely people!

This post is a bit overdue, especially since it is already the 15th of August and I have already started to read some of the books on my August TBR. But anyway here we go.

Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen

So I'm reading this book with Brooke from @whisperingwoman as part of her Classics Club. It's such a great idea. Every week we read a certain amount of chapters together and then every week there is a resource pack with chapter summaries and analyses and extra reading material (usually academic articles). This is such a great way to read Jane Austen, because the language used in the book can sometimes feel intimidating and if you are not entirely sure what just happened in a chapter, the resource pack helps so much.  And we also have a Whatsapp group so we can encourage each other to keep on reading.

Book summary: I am sure most of you have either heard of Pride and Prejudice, watched the movie or read the book but for that one person who has never heard of it, here is a quick summary. This novel is set in England in the early 19th century and the story line follows the Bennett family (and mainly Elizabeth Bennett) in search of husbands for the Bennett sisters. This book really gives you a feeling of what it was like in the 19th century. Mrs Bennett is very eager to find husbands for  her daughters. This novel follows the love stories and in some cases loveless relationships between these daughters and their suitors. It mainly follows the struggling love story between Elizabeth Bennett and Mr. Darcy - they both have to overcome obstacles to end up together (they have to unlearn their pride and prejudice). But I'm not going to spoil too much - if you are interested in this book, here is a link to buy the book:  https://www.bookbub.com/books/pride-and-prejudice-by-jane-austen-2019-03-25

Book expectations: I already started to read this book, but before I started reading the book I thought that I would struggle to read it because it isn't exactly a quick read; the language can be quite intimidating and I have tried to read Emma by Jane Austen previously. When you read  a Jane Austen book sometimes, you read (for example) a sentence and then you just feel  like you don't know what you just read and you cannot comprehend what happened in that sentence or what is meant by it. But surprisingly so far I'm reading quite quickly and it is not that hard. I'm really enjoying it so far. Hopefully there is going to be a review as soon as I finish it; it depends on whether I like or dislike the book as a whole and have some thoughts I would like to share with you guys. I might even do my first book discussion/analysis on this blog.

Spin the Dawn (The Blood of Stars #1) - Elizabeth  Lim

This was the first which the Buddy Read I'm hosting voted for; here is a link to the blog post which explains how it works if you are interested in joining. A few of the members of the Buddy Read has already read this book and they love it  - even people who doesn't read fantasy that much or even at all, loves it! I started reading it already, but not finished yet! So far it is amazing - I'm definitely going to start reading more of Elizabeth Lim.

Book summary:  Maia Tamarin wants to become the greatest  tailor in A'landi, but as a girl it will never happen. But when her ill father is summoned to go work as the Emperor's tailor, she disguises herself as her brother, Keton, and goes in her father's place. When she arrives at the Palace, she and 11 other tailors have to endure trials to be chosen as the court's tailor. She meets the court magician, Edan, who somehow knows who she truly is. And she is faced with an even bigger challenge than that: to sow three wedding dresses from the laughter of the sun, the tears of the moon and the blood of the stars for the emperor's bride. An amazing novel filled  with lies, deception, secrets and most of all, magic. If you're interested, here is a link to buy this book:  https://www.bookbub.com/books/spin-the-dawn-by-elizabeth-lim

Book expectations: I haven't read fantasy in a while - I used to read a lot more fantasy when I was younger, but now I read more YA, romance and contemporary novels. So this is really exciting!  And after hearing an overwhelming amount  of good reviews, I can't wait to dive in.  I am probably like 1/3  into the book at the moment and it really is one of those books which you cannot put down. It's so amazing!! Definitely expect a review from this one.

Okay that's it for today. I'm going to read other books for my studies so I thought I would write another post for the books I have to read for this term for my studies to make it a bit interesting. Thank you so much for reading this and definitely go read these books!!!
